Is It Beneficial to Have More Than One Blog

This is a question that I get frequently. Doctors and their practices might already have a blog associated with their website, so they often ask, “why should I add another blog?” or “is there a benefit to an additional blog?” The answer is quite simply ‘yes!’

Having multiple blogs can give you an incredible advantage over your competitors. The reason is because of the keyword leverage you can harness. This means that you can set up these additional blogs on separate, keyword-rich domains, which will in turn give you a better chance at ranking for these keywords.

If you’re a plastic surgeon, for example, and you have a blog on your website, consider adding several more blogs and placing them on unique domains. You should include both your city or nearby metropolitan AND one of the following services in the domain:

  • plastic surgeon/surgery
  • cosmetic surgeon/ surgery
  • breast augmentation
  • tummy tuck
  • liposuction
  • face lift
  • rhinoplasty

*For example: www.houston-face-lift.com would be a good domain for an additional blog if your practice is in or near Houston. Coincidentally this domain is actually available, so even though it’s 2011 there are still quality, keyword-rich domains available.

Obviously you factor in the cost to purchase the domains and host them, which shouldn’t be more than $150 for the entire year. Of course, there is a cost to set up each of the blogs. I highly recommend installing WordPress.org to each domain, and if possible, copying over your website design to each blog, which would definitely help with your branding. Besides cost, another reason that your competition isn’t doing this is because in order for the blogs to be effective you actually have to blog (and optimize your blog articles well)! This takes time, and it can take money, if you outsource it.

Even you spend $7,500 for four additional blogs, including hosting & copywriting for one year, all you need to do is generate one lead that converts into a patient, for almost any procedure mentioned above in order to make the investment worth it. Of course, if you really want to ensure the most leads you’ll probably want to invest in SEO and backlinking for your blogs as well.
