wordpress security

wordpress securityBack In July I published an article about one of the biggest drawbacks to WordPress, security. In that article I noted several steps we take to ensure that all of our clients are protected. Well, in an effort to continuously ‘stay ahead of the game’ when it comes to hackers we’ve found an even better solution.

One might wonder why there’s even a need for a better solution in the first place. After all, WordPress has a bevy of plugins that help provide security, including firewalls, login attempt limits, malware scans, and more. However, what we’ve found is that these simply aren’t enough.  Hackers are getting continuously more sophisticated, so the need for more sophisticated security is ever-evolving.

Over the past year we’ve seen more and more attempted hacks on our websites. This coincides with the numerous data breaches that Target, JP Morgan, Home Depot and Healthcare.gov experienced. On Wednesday of last week (9/10/14) was announced by Mashable that 5 million ‘gmail passwords’ were hacked. It goes without saying that hacking is on the rise.

So what’s the solution? Cloud-based proxy security. TRBO has partnered with Sucuri to offer a comprehensive security service that will protect your website from being hacked. How does this work? By using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) and Instrusion Prevention System (IPS).  This protects your website from malware, blacklisting, brute force attacks, SQL injections, cross-site request forgeries, malicious post requests, and much more.

What makes this service unique is that it’s a cloud-based protective perimeter that requires all website visitors to pass through their Intrusion Prevention and detection systems. This is done at the DNS level by updating your domain’s A record. What’s more is that the system can run real-time security patches. This is something no WordPress plugin can possibly execute.

We highly recommend securing your WordPress website. As an open source platform that’s supported by unique, third-party themes and plugins, some of which can be compromised, you need to be especially cautious about security. Unfortunately, your web host can only provide daily backups and protect you from server attacks. This does nothing to prevent the hacking of your website platform itself.
